Cabot and Company Celebrates Its 22nd Annual Holiday Party

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

A lot of restaurants have come and gone over the past 22 years but we always seem to find a nice venue with fine food and drink for our annual Holiday Bash! This year we went to Mistral on Columbus Avenue.

In addition to the excellent food and drink, we had our traditional “Cabot Yankee Swap” wherein Cabot provides the gifts to be exchanged. A genuine “clunker” of a gift, lottery tickets and fancy alcohol are always in the mix to help assure a competitive swap.  Regardless of the economic times for Boston real estate, this is a Cabot event we always enjoy and feel blessed to have!

Hope you enjoy the pics!

Happy Thanksgiving to All! And, By The Way, Where Is The Boston Real Estate Market Trending?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Around this time last year, I wrote a blog asking this same question (to view it scroll back to about the seventh blog…fall of last year). Anyway, it is interesting to look back a year later with 20-20 hindsight vision and see what I saw then and to compare it to what happened and to what trends I see now.

Essentially, what I said a year ago still applies….the unemployment rate remains the key to the real estate recovery. The residential market is still stronger than the commercial market but both sectors have pockets that defy the national trends of lower prices. Back Bay condos, Beacon Hill, South End and other desirable Boston neighborhoods have held their own compared to the suburbs and Cape Cod, where prices and activity are down 20% and more…in some cases, way more. I think the recent election will prove to stanch the excessive government spending and eventually lead to more economic confidence resulting in an increase in employment in the private sector. Hopefully I am right about this.

Either way, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Cabot & Company Visits The Harvard Club in Downtown Boston

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Pictured are Paula, Dan and myself as well as Shelagh and Dan at the Harvard Club of Boston’s Business to Business Expo. The event was held at the Downtown Harvard Club on the penthouse level of One Federal Street, 38 floors above the city. It was a magnificent evening with plenty of food and drink as well as gorgeous views of the city and harbor.

It was also an opportunity to network with other businesses and professionals in a warm and collegial atmosphere. Paula, Dan , Shelagh and I had a fine time discussing some of our specialties, including Boston real estate, Boston investment property and Boston commercial real estate, in addition to learning about other companies that operate in and around our city. Cabot & Company was the only Boston real estate firm there so we were pretty busy!

Despite The Warm Weather, The Fall Market Is Upon Us!

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Recent record high temperatures have not diminished the excitement that is building around this year’s autumn sales season.  The uncertainty of the future of tax rates has some owners considering that this may be the best time to sell their Boston Property and likely pay lower capital gains taxes.  The international investors are out in full force as their children arrive for the new school year and Boston looks its best with great walking weather.

Most people in the real estate business admit they don’t know where the Boston real estate market is going but know that the coming national election will probably have an impact on the economy and thereby the real estate market.   Are we going to witness the beginning of a major turn-around or are we going to see more stagnation?  No matter what happens, enjoy your autumn in Boston as it is truly a gift!
